/keti/ · Swahili for “sit”

Sit with a cup. Sit with a neighbour. Sit with an idea. Sit long enough to become a regular. Then stand up and make something happen.

Kahawa.Experience the in-between.
For Membley

Somewhere to simply belong.

We have homes. We have workplaces. We have venues. What many neighbourhoods lack is the in-between: the space between home and work, solitude and company, routine and discovery. Keti is that space, anchored in everyday Kenyan coffee.

01

Accessible, not for show.

Low-cost coffee and free or low-cost participation, so Keti can become part of your weekly routine.

02

Contemporary Kenyan.

Kenyan life, not Kenyan décor: coffee origins, music, craft, languages, makers and neighbourhood stories.

03

Locally authored.

Keti curates the room. Members increasingly propose, host and improve what happens in it.

How Keti works

Coffee is the anchor. The space is the product. The community is the programme.

Come for something. Leave with something: a new person, skill, idea, route, perspective, opportunity or contribution.

01

Coffee brings people in.

We make it good enough and affordable enough to become routine.

02

The room invites them to stay.

Warm, flexible, intimate, unpretentious.

03

Participation turns customers into regulars.

People do more than consume.

04

Contribution turns regulars into community.

Skills, time and relationships create value.

05

The community eventually authors Keti.

The strongest programmes are the ones we no longer have to invent ourselves.

Rituals, not a random calendar.

Every recurring Keti programme should create at least two of three things: connection, growth and contribution. We start with five, and let the neighbourhood author the rest.

The first 90 days
  1. 01Keti Table

A communal table that signals solo visitors are open to conversation.

    Always on
  2. 02Keti Move

A Saturday walk, run or ride. The route and format rotate.

    2× a month
  3. 03Keti 20 + Exchange

One neighbour teaches one useful thing in twenty minutes, then coffee and discussion.

    1× a week
  4. 04Keti After Hours

Football, film, quiz or a listening night, when there is a clear audience.

    1–2× a month
  5. 05Keti Give

One validated contribution to the neighbourhood.

    1× a month

Everyone has something to offer.

A simple board by the bar: what you can offer, what you want to learn. Coding, CVs, photography, languages, brewing, bike repair, design, finance. Keti makes the match, and the exchange happens over coffee.

The library

A library, not an opening-day checklist. A programme earns a permanent place only when people come back.

  • Keti FixBring a simple item or bicycle. Neighbours teach you to repair it.
  • Keti Listening RoomOne album or artist. Listen first, discuss after.
  • Keti Coffee LabAffordable cuppings: one Kenyan coffee, many ways.
  • Keti OriginFarmers and cooperatives visit; their coffee and story become the programme.
  • Keti Open WallLocal photographers, illustrators, ceramicists, students and makers.
  • Keti SokoTiny curated maker mornings, not a flea market.
  • Keti New HereA monthly table for people new to the estate, city or country.
  • Keti OfflineA phone-light hour: chess, cards, reading, sketching.
  • Keti Build NightBring a project, get practical peer feedback.
  • Keti Money TablePlain talk on budgets, SACCOs, taxes and freelancing.
  • Keti Field TripSmall trips to farms, workshops, museums and makers.
  • Keti ChallengeA 30-day neighbourhood goal, tracked on the wall.

What should happen at Keti? Fill in a card or scan the QR at the bar. The ideas people keep asking for get piloted, and the ones that bring people back stay.
